Insel Gruppe AG centralizes 1 PB of medical data with synedra IT
The Insel Gruppe AG, a major hospital network in Switzerland formed from the merger of Inselspital and Spital Netz Bern AG, sought to consolidate its various medical archive systems. Their challenge was to provide physicians, nursing staff, and therapists with streamlined access to all medical content, including images, documents, biosignals, videos, and audio files, to improve treatment quality and patient safety. They selected vendor synedra IT and its product synedra View Professional (synedra AIM) as their new Medical Content Management System following a public tender.
The solution implemented by synedra consolidated the existing archives into a universal system and connected diverse clinic-specific systems and imaging modalities directly to the platform. This provided a central repository for all harmonized medical data and a multi-format viewer for simplified access. The measurable impact includes the planned consolidation of approximately 1 petabyte of data, 1 billion images, and 50 million reports, serving around 7,200 active users across multiple hospital sites. synedra's platform is integrated with the new clinic information system, facilitating interoperability and a more economical use of all resources.
