Case Study: Barton College achieves a sustainable business model and enrollment-driven growth with Synario

A Synario Case Study

Preview of the Barton College Case Study

Barton College - Customer Case Study

Barton College, a private four‑year institution in Wilson, North Carolina with about 923 full‑time students in Fall 2017, faced an unsustainable operating plan driven in part by a 48% undergraduate tuition discount rate and the need to manage enrollment growth, costs, and campus infrastructure holistically. To address this, the college engaged Synario and its purpose‑built financial modeling software to create a comprehensive, dynamic view of their business model and monitor discounting and enrollment initiatives.

Using Synario’s modeling tools and scenario analysis, Barton College’s executive team quantified enrollment initiatives, evaluated graduate growth projections with dynamic graphics, and visualized impacts on operating margin and net assets. The Dec 2017 planning session produced concrete decisions—presented with Synario to the Board of Trustees—including launching a new football program to drive enrollment and capital investment and issuing a bond to fund it—demonstrating Synario’s role in turning financial models into implementable strategy.
