Seabird Data Services adds 10.4MW of grid flexibility with Sympower

Seabird Data Services (SDS), a data centre in Sweden, sought to establish itself as a leading grid stabilizer and explore new revenue streams but had no prior experience with demand response. They contacted Sympower to help them discover and utilize the flexibility potential of their high-performance computing (HPC) systems to participate in energy balancing markets.

Sympower conducted technical assessments to qualify SDS's assets for market participation. The solution enabled SDS to provide 10.4MW of capacity to the FCR-D Up market and later expand into the mFRR market. This participation generates significant additional revenue for SDS, estimated between €90,000 - €120,000 per megawatt per year, while positioning them as a major contributor to the stability of Sweden's electricity grid.
