A Sympower Case Study
Arctic Paper, a leading paper mill, faced the challenge of managing its highly energy-intensive production process. The company partnered with vendor Sympower to explore new revenue streams by leveraging its existing equipment to provide demand response services to the power grid.
Sympower implemented its in-house developed control system to unlock flexibility within Arctic Paper's processes, such as grinders and stirrers. This allowed the mill to participate in the frequency containment reserve market (FCR-D). The solution generated significant additional revenue, expected to be just over SEK 900,000 annually per MW connected, which sometimes fully covers the operating cost of the connected processes.
