Phoebe Putney Achieves $3M in Labor Cost Savings

Phoebe Putney Health System, a 4,500‑employee regional health system serving more than 500,000 residents across 35 counties, was spending $9M annually on overtime (4.6% of labor) due to inconsistent staffing practices, siloed units, paper schedules, and a staffing office that did not operate 24/7. To tackle these challenges, Phoebe Putney partnered with Symplr and deployed its workforce management tools, including Time and Attendance, Staffing and Scheduling, and Mobile Time Management, to standardize processes and improve visibility.

Using Symplr solutions, Phoebe standardized time/attendance and scheduling policies, moved to six‑week schedules, restructured the central staffing office to 24/7 coverage, prioritized rollout to high‑overtime areas (171 of 299 cost centers) and implemented electronic licensure tracking. The initiative delivered measurable results: $3M in labor cost savings, overtime reduced from 4.6% to 3.5%, recovery of 125 FTEs (including 33.8 nursing FTEs), cancellation of agency contracts and a $2M decrease in overtime, demonstrating clear financial and workforce improvements enabled by Symplr.
