How to Have an Online Marketplace in One Shopping Cart

PIELERS is a cloud-based open food retail network that gives peer-to-peer food producers direct access to consumers, aiming for fairer, more transparent delivery and payments. Facing the challenge of a multi-seller marketplace with mixed shopping carts, split payments, varied fulfilment and payment conditions, and an agile startup growth model, PIELERS selected Sylius (built on the full‑stack Symfony framework) to provide the flexible, headless e‑commerce foundation needed.

Using Sylius, Braune Digital implemented a multi-domain, modular architecture (currently PIELERS.de and Marktrei.de) with a custom Marketplace‑Bundle for mixed carts, split payments, merchant backends, a Sylius REST API for headless Angular frontends and third‑party integrations, Elasticsearch search, and AWS/NGINX hosting for performance. The Sylius‑based solution enabled four distinct user roles, real‑time reporting for merchants, and seamless logistics/payment workflows—delivering a scalable, production marketplace that lets producers market directly to customers while meeting PIELERS’ agility and complexity requirements.
