Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center - Customer Case Study

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) launched the Next Gen 9-1-1 Telemedicine Pilot Project to improve emergency care across a huge 108-county rural service area, where ambulance transport times could exceed 90 minutes and patients were sometimes taken to facilities not equipped to treat them. To address these challenges, TTUHSC selected swyMed and its mobile telemedicine technology for use in EMS units.

swyMed implemented its DOT Telemedicine Backpack in ten test ambulances, using LTE/4G connectivity from Verizon and AT&T to connect field crews with trauma centers and University Medical Center in Lubbock. The solution gave emergency physicians real-time video access to patients, injuries, and vital signs so they could guide treatment and determine the most appropriate destination for care, helping save time, money, and lives while supporting expansion to more ambulances and counties over time.
