A SWTCH Case Study
Aspac Developments Ltd. faced the challenge of complying with a municipal bylaw in Richmond, BC, requiring all 574 parking stalls in their new multifamily project to be EV-ready. The initial quotes for traditional electrical upgrades were cost-prohibitive, so they needed a more affordable solution that also provided future flexibility for the condominium strata council. They partnered with vendor SWTCH to find an intelligent load management system rather than just purchasing individual chargers.
SWTCH implemented its networked EV charging solution, SWTCH Control, which uses smart load management to share electrical circuits across multiple parking stalls. This approach saved Aspac Developments $1,000 per stall in installation costs compared to traditional wiring. The solution was highly successful, with 152 of the 459 unit owners opting to install a charger. SWTCH's open-protocol system also provided the strata council with flexibility and set them up for future revenue opportunities through utility demand response programs.
