Preview of the Skanska Case Study

Skanska The M25 Road Widening Mega-Project

Skanska faced a major risk-management challenge on the M25 Road Widening mega-project: a fixed-price, high-profile contract with an immovable deadline ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, significant penalty exposure, and many stakeholders to satisfy. To manage this complexity, Skanska used Sword GRC’s Active Risk Manager (ARM) enterprise risk management software instead of spreadsheets.

Sword GRC’s ARM enabled Skanska to organize risks across multiple registers, improve auditability and reporting, and use Monte Carlo simulation to focus on high-impact, low-probability risks and drive earlier mitigation. The approach improved transparency, trust, and issue resolution, and the project finished eight weeks early, met all financial targets, and helped Skanska win major risk-management awards.
