Ameren manages multi-million dollar capital projects' risk with Active Risk Manager

Ameren, a major U.S. utility managing more than 7,500 circuit miles of transmission lines, needed a better way to handle risk across an expanding portfolio of multi-million-dollar capital projects. To support its strong risk management culture, Ameren turned to Sword GRC’s Active Risk Manager (ARM) to centralize project risk data, improve planning, and support compliance and decision-making.

Sword GRC implemented ARM as a single risk database and workflow platform for Ameren’s projects, including a Transmission Project Change Request process with automation and analytics. The results were significant: Ameren reduced contingency budgets from the industry standard 10% to 5%, cutting initial contingency allocation by about $40 million and freeing up roughly $122 million for capital investment, with plans to reduce contingency further to 2.5%.
