UNIL AS - Customer Case Study

UNIL AS, a key supplier of Norgesgruppen private‑label products with over 2,500 SKUs, needed to centralize multiple warehouses and move from manual to automated handling to cut operating costs and shorten lead times. In 2009 they contracted Swisslog Holding to design and build a 30‑meter automated High Bay Warehouse, deploying Swisslog’s WarehouseRunner concept along with Vectura stacker cranes and integrated controls (WarehouseManager MFCS and BoxControl ACS).

Swisslog Holding delivered a fully automated, high‑density material handling solution—dry and frozen high‑bay warehouses (34,000 pallet locations with 10 Vectura cranes for dry goods; 17,000 pallet locations with 5 cranes for frozen), 690 m of conveyors and automated labelling—supporting an estimated 400–1,000 pallets handled daily (capacity up to 1,200/day). The system generated a successful ROI that funded a 2013 freezer expansion, reduced lead times and stock damage, improved ergonomic frozen‑food picking, and enabled UNIL AS to insource distribution and reliably serve Norgesgruppen.
