The international food retailer SPAR faced a challenge when its existing distribution center in Waalwijk, the Netherlands, became too small due to company growth. To solve this, SPAR partnered with vendor Swisslog Holding to expand its capacity by taking over and adapting a neighboring automated warehouse that Swisslog had previously implemented.

Swisslog implemented a solution by helping SPAR adapt the software and modify the newly acquired facility. This provided SPAR with a state-of-the-art automated warehouse, resulting in high picking performance, improved ergonomics, minimal risk of error, and quality guaranteed by advanced automation. The solution from Swisslog enabled SPAR's growth ambitions and made it the first food retailer in the Netherlands to have such an attractive automated solution.
