Pepsi Bottling Ventures - Customer Case Study

Pepsi Bottling Ventures faced a capacity and inventory-management challenge in its 54,000 sq ft Garner, NC warehouse, where pallets were floor-stacked up to four high, causing product damage, manual tracking errors and wasted inventory. Pepsi Bottling Ventures engaged Swisslog Holding to install PAS PowerStore™, a cart-and-lift-based warehouse automation system, to increase density and improve pallet traceability without expanding the facility.

Swisslog Holding implemented a seven-module PAS PowerStore™ system (8 vertical conveyors, 27 carrier sets, 14 turntables) integrated with PBV’s existing WMS, enabling automated storage and retrieval and operator-guided fork truck induction. The solution raised capacity from about 4,800 to 7,800 pallet positions (a 61.5% increase), eliminated manual location errors and pallet tumbles, improved throughput and inventory accuracy, and achieved these gains without adding building square footage or additional warehouse labor.
