A Swisslog Holding Case Study
The Michelin Group’s Nordic distribution center in Kungälv was struggling with aging automation and AGVs that became bottlenecks during peak seasons, threatening its high customer-service standards. To modernize the facility and secure high availability, Michelin engaged Swisslog Holding for a Retrofit Project that included replacement of old equipment with eight Vectura D22 stacker cranes, a fixed rack conveyor system and BoxControl/Automation Control (ACS).
Swisslog Holding implemented the new cranes and conveyor layout across the 13,000‑location high-bay warehouse, completing the critical crane replacements with only an eight‑week full closure and temporary external storage, and now provides regular service (crane maintenance three times a year). The result was on‑time project delivery, minimal disruption to daily operations, improved article availability and order‑fulfilment capacity during seasonal peaks, and greater capacity to support future growth across the Nordic market.
