Forlagssentralen - Customer Case Study

Forlagssentralen, Norway’s largest book distributor, needed a future-proof, fully automated distribution center to handle a massive and variable workload — roughly 10 million books to retailers and 3.5 million direct-to-consumer shipments annually, with 40,000–60,000 books and some 5,000 titles processed daily. The challenge was to automate picking of all inventory continuously while improving capacity, accuracy and ergonomics. Swisslog Holding was selected to deliver the solution.

Swisslog Holding implemented a fully automated distribution center including automated picking (rapid miniload cranes), pallet stacking/automated stacker capability, integrated light goods conveyors and flexible tote/box and pallet handling with batch-pick options. The solution increased handling capacity and efficiency, improved ergonomics and picking accuracy, and reduced product damage — enabling Forlagssentralen’s Langhus plant to handle current volumes and scale for future demand while streamlining retailer and direct-to-customer order flows.
