ERS, a Lloyd’s underwriting business and motor insurer, needed to modernise paper-heavy back office processes after a change in ownership and strategy, while facing pressure from competition, regulation, and margin compression. Swiss Post Solutions (SPS) was brought in to help ERS reduce paper, increase automation, and create a more efficient, customer-focused operation across claims, underwriting, and mail handling.

Swiss Post Solutions implemented enhanced scanning with OCR-based auto-classification, email capture and indexing, an off-site digital mailroom, and digital archiving, all linked to secure FTP-based document routing. The results included 40% initial savings versus building in-house, six fewer FTEs in offshore keying, a 24-hour reduction in claims handling, mail processing cut from 48 hours to 6 hours, 10 FTEs saved by closing the central mailroom, improved cash flow through same-day cheque banking, and lower archiving, transport, and business continuity risk.
