Enterprise IT vendor moves internal apps and services to SwiftStack

IT Services Group, part of a global enterprise IT organization with more than 300,000 employees, needed a new storage foundation that was far more cost effective than its legacy SAN and proprietary file-storage setup. The team also wanted a simple, scalable platform built on standardized hardware and open source software that could support multiple internal applications while conserving scarce IT resources. SwiftStack provided the software-defined storage platform used for this initiative.

SwiftStack’s object storage platform was implemented to power a secure employee sync-and-share service, a static web repository, and a filesystem gateway for legacy applications. The solution lowered storage TCO to $0.61 per GB per month versus $1.70–$2.50 for SAN storage, and automation let the rollout be supported by only 2 FTEs. SwiftStack also enabled the service to expand from an initial few hundred TB to over 1 PB, with data growing at 50% per month.
