Counsyl, a healthcare genetics company, needed a storage platform that could support fast turnaround for patient results, manage large volumes of genome sequencing data, retain records for seven years, and keep data encrypted and compliant with clinical retention requirements. The company also needed a solution that could scale with rapid growth and support both on-premises and public cloud workflows. SwiftStack provided the cloud-native storage foundation for this data-intensive environment.

SwiftStack implemented a single, policy-driven namespace across on-premises infrastructure and AWS, using Cloud Sync to automatically copy sequencing and analysis data to Amazon S3 and move archives to Amazon Glacier. This gave Counsyl a common API, simplified access for developers and researchers, enabled disaster recovery and cloud bursting, and met CLIA long-term storage requirements. With SwiftStack, Counsyl gained a “single source of truth” for data and the ability to use elastic cloud compute without changing applications.
