Commvault needed a more cost-effective way to store and access rapidly growing backup and archive data across distributed teams and locations. Traditional storage arrays were expensive to scale, and tape-based backups were hard to search and risked degradation over time, creating challenges for recovery, legal hold, and disaster preparedness. SwiftStack and CommVault Simpana were used to address these storage and access needs.

SwiftStack provided an enterprise-grade object storage platform that integrated with CommVault Simpana to replace or supplement tape and traditional storage with highly accessible, geographically distributed cloud storage. The solution improved backup and archive management, supported disaster recovery and remote office backup, and helped lower total cost of ownership by running on industry-standard hardware. SwiftStack also enabled better scalability, faster recovery objectives, and simpler management, though the case study did not provide specific numerical performance gains.
