How Swan enabled Alma to become a leading European BNPL provider

Alma partnered with Swan to solve an ops-heavy payments workflow as it scaled its buy-now-pay-later business. Each night, the company was manually sending around 1,000 SEPA payments to merchants and needed a technical partner that could automate reconciliation, review, and payout orchestration while supporting future growth.

Swan provided an easy-to-integrate API for orchestrating SEPA debit payments, which automated merchant payouts and later added single-use virtual cards to pay vendors. This simplified merchant accounting, improved the user experience, and helped Alma achieve better unit economics; Swan’s platform also supported Alma’s expansion into card issuance, enabling consumers to pay almost anywhere while powering the BNPL experience with Swan accounts and regulatory infrastructure.
