Lob, the direct mail platform, needed to overhaul its Webhooks V1 system because it was overly complex, hard to maintain, expensive, and limited by AWS SWF concurrency constraints. To replace the aging infrastructure and add requested features like rate limiting, OAuth, and easy replay, Lob evaluated build vs. buy and chose Svix for its webhooks-as-a-service platform.
With Svix, Lob simplified its architecture to a single queue, one autoscaling worker, and Svix, while also working with Svix to add AWS-region hosting and persistent HTTP connections for better throughput. The new setup improved scalability and made engineering easier to manage, reduced and flattened costs, and delivered a feature-rich dashboard for self-serve replay and endpoint rate limits; Lob also rolled it out successfully to a large enterprise customer that sent over 10 million webhooks in the first week and a half.
