A Sustainalytics Case Study
DNB, Norway's largest bank, had ambitious sustainability targets, including financing NOK 1,500 billion in ESG activities by 2030. Its challenge was to update its existing sustainable product framework to keep pace with market evolution and new regulations like the EU Taxonomy, ensuring it could identify projects with genuine environmental impact. To achieve this, DNB engaged the services of Sustainalytics' Sustainable Finance Insights team.
Sustainalytics provided guidance to enhance DNB's framework, ensuring it aligned with leading market practices. The solution included an annual review process to keep the framework relevant. As a result, DNB now has a robust foundation to classify and finance sustainable transactions, leading to growth in funded projects. This has enabled the bank to diversify its ESG investments, such as financing hybrid ferries and a biochar factory, contributing directly to its goal of reducing emissions.
