Western & Southern Financial Group needed to replace an end-of-life caching appliance used in branch offices of Western & Southern Life, where 180+ locations needed fast Internet browsing and access to online testing applications. It chose Suse Linux Enterprise Server after evaluating other options, looking for a lower-cost, more capable alternative for its field offices.

Suse implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on 180+ low-end HP servers and paired it with open source proxy software and ZENworks Linux Management. The result was branch-office caching at 25 percent of the cost of a proprietary solution, 50 percent faster caching speed, and about 50 percent less IT administration, while also reducing software costs and enabling easier server consolidation and future application rollout.
