A Suse Case Study
Total, the fifth largest publicly traded integrated oil and gas company, needed to improve seismic-data analysis and visualization so it could find smaller, more hard-to-reach reserves more efficiently. To do that, Total E&P evaluated high-performance computing options and chose SUSE Linux Enterprise Server as part of a new supercomputing environment for its Pangea project.
Suse helped Total E&P implement a supercomputer built on SGI ICE X hardware with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, cluster management software, and energy-efficient cooling. The result was a 10x increase in computing capacity, faster simulations, and better price-performance, helping Total keep total cost of ownership low while supporting larger-scale geophysical modeling.
