SUSE Successfully Delivers Major Linux Migration

Daimler, one of the world’s leading automotive companies, needed a more flexible and cost-effective infrastructure to replace multiple proprietary UNIX environments and simplify application deployment, updates, and compliance. Working with Suse, it set out to standardize on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and related services for mission-critical workloads, including SAP applications.

Suse implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, and SUSE Manager to manage lifecycle updates across a large distributed environment. The result was faster provisioning of tailored system images in about 20 minutes, patching of hundreds of servers in minutes instead of days or weeks, a fourfold increase in Linux instances, and a 40% reduction in UNIX instances, significantly lowering costs and complexity.
