A Suse Case Study
Pearl Global Industries, a major garment manufacturer operating across Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia, needed to replace aging HP-UX on HP Itanium servers that were nearing end-of-life and no longer keeping up with growth. The company’s SAP, Oracle, and reporting systems were slowing down, compatibility issues were increasing, and support for the legacy platform was becoming harder to find, putting business operations at risk. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications was chosen as the new platform.
SUSE implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on five Hitachi Compute Blade 500 x86 servers, virtualized part of the environment, and supported Pearl Global Industries’ SAP ERP and Oracle workloads. The migration was completed with no downtime and on schedule, and the results included a drop in key report generation time from 45 minutes to under 5 minutes, a 20% boost in system performance, faster configuration management, and stronger uptime and flexibility for future growth.
