St Mary MacKillop College, a large Catholic co-educational school in Australia, was managing around 40 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server instances with a small IT team of five. Applying patches and updates across its growing physical and virtual environment was time-consuming and disruptive, and the college also wanted a faster, more reliable way to launch new services without adding in-house infrastructure.

To solve this, St Mary MacKillop College deployed Suse Manager alongside Suse Linux Enterprise Server and later used Suse Linux Enterprise Server on Amazon EC2 for cloud workloads. Suse automated server management and patching, eliminating downtime during working hours, saving an estimated seven man-hours per month, improving security and reliability, and increasing bandwidth and availability through the Amazon cloud.
