PCMS Group plc needed a highly secure, robust, and always-available server platform to support its VISION BeanStore point-of-sale software across large retail environments, including more than 4,200 POS systems worldwide. The company turned to Suse, using SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to meet the demands of fast change management, reliability, and efficient deployment.
Suse implemented an automated, preconfigured POS platform with scripting tools, YaST, LDAP, and PXE to build and manage systems with minimal manual intervention. The result was constant POS availability, lower manual effort, and improved cost efficiency; PCMS also reported better performance than its previous environment while reducing hardware investment and avoiding on-site engineer visits for most maintenance and setup tasks.
