Pacific Drilling, an offshore drilling company, needed to better control IT and SAP infrastructure costs as oil and gas market conditions became more challenging. To address this, Pacific Drilling worked with Suse and Protera Technologies, using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on AWS to support its SAP environment.

Suse helped implement a fully integrated SAP solution stack on AWS with built-in high availability, disaster recovery, and simplified management through Protera’s AppCare platform. The result was a more resilient environment with lower compute, storage, and maintenance costs, cutting SAP total cost of ownership in half while doubling HANA capacity and generating an estimated $1 million in savings over three years.
