A Suse Case Study
Miami-Dade County, the largest county employer in Florida, needed to provide more services with less funding while supporting more than 60 mission-critical applications across a massive, diverse IT environment. To help meet these pressures, it turned to Suse and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z to run workloads on its IBM mainframe platform.
Suse implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z on upgraded IBM System z10 machines with z/VM virtualization, enabling Miami-Dade County to virtualize Linux workloads, improve agility, and support faster service delivery. The county reported significant cost and staffing benefits, including lower price/performance than other UNIX platforms, 30% less power usage than the previous mainframe, and managing the z/Linux infrastructure with less than one FTE while maintaining continuous availability for critical applications.
