Macau Government Portal for Civil Servants - Customer Case Study

Macau Government Portal for Civil Servants, part of Macau’s Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, needed a more flexible and interoperable way to build an interactive portal for civil servants. Its existing closed-source platforms made it hard to connect portal services with directories and databases, while limiting the ability to add new users and services quickly and cost-effectively. The team chose Suse, using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and related open source components.

Suse helped the eGov team design, develop, and roll out the portal on a LAMP-based stack with SUSE Technical Services. The new system centralized government information, enabled document sharing and discussions, and integrated with the user directory. Within seven months of launch, about 15,000 users had signed up and posted 100,000 messages, while the organization gained a stable, secure, flexible, and lower-cost platform that reduced licensing spend and sped up new service development.
