A Suse Case Study
Leiden University, one of Europe’s oldest research institutions, faced rising capacity, performance, and hardware support costs for its SAP ERP systems on Solaris, along with concerns about limited internal Solaris expertise. To reduce risk and improve efficiency, the university chose Suse and its SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications as the platform for its critical SAP environment.
Suse helped Leiden University migrate its SAP development, QA, and production systems to a fully virtualized Linux environment on VMware, supported by SAP consultants and integrated SAP Solution Manager support. The move delivered a more open, scalable, and cost-effective platform, reduced hardware and support costs, improved standardization across about 80% of the Linux landscape, and gave the university greater flexibility to test and expand SAP workloads with no incremental hardware cost.
