A Suse Case Study
Jiangsu Province Rural Credit Co-operative Union (JPRCCU), a large rural banking network in China with thousands of branch computers and 2,000 branches, needed a simpler, more reliable way to connect its widely distributed systems to central banking services. Its legacy SCO UNIX-based setup ran on low-end PCs, leading to frequent hardware failures, difficult maintenance, and costly travel for IT staff.
SUSE implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server as part of a new thin-client, centrally managed architecture with servers in county data centers. The result was a 90% reduction in hardware needs and about 60% lower IT, hardware, and licensing costs, while also improving reliability, availability, and branch support. The rollout was completed in less than three months and had been running for more than nine months without problems.
