A Suse Case Study
The Institute of Physics at Jagiellonian University needed a more affordable and flexible way to store rapidly growing scientific data without the burden of monolithic enterprise storage and vendor lock-in. To address this challenge, it turned to Suse Enterprise Storage, powered by Ceph, to create a software-defined storage environment that could scale more granularly and reduce the need for large, periodic hardware investments.
Suse implemented an open source, enterprise-supported storage platform that the institute deployed in just one day. The solution delivered high availability at much lower cost, improved management and scalability, and eliminated vendor dependence; the institute started with a 20 TB deployment and now uses it for backups, CCTV video, new experiment data, and virtualization, with no loss in performance or availability.
