A Suse Case Study
The Informatics Innovation Center KIT wanted to help more students learn mainframe technology and improve their job prospects, but many students were unfamiliar with IBM System z and its concepts. To lower the barrier to entry, the center worked with Suse and used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z along with SUSE Studio to make the platform easier to access and learn.
Suse implemented a modern Linux-based mainframe environment with simple deployment, management, and configuration tools, plus compatibility with widely used software packages. The result was faster student progress, greater acceptance of the mainframe platform, more efficient cloud use for student and research projects, and lower complexity and costs, while also helping support near-zero downtime application development.
