Infonet Nederland, a global networking and communications service provider, needed to upgrade its SAP business systems but initially expected to buy 12 new physical servers, which would increase costs and strain its small IT team. To address this challenge, Infonet turned to Suse and used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with VMware-based virtualization, along with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Priority Support for SAP Applications.

Suse helped Infonet build a fully virtualized SAP environment and consolidate the workload onto just three servers instead of 12, while also migrating its database from Oracle to MaxDB. The result was a 20% reduction in IT operational costs, a 30% reduction in administration workload, and a 75% smaller physical server footprint, while also lowering licensing, power, and space requirements.
