A Suse Case Study
Heritage Foods Ltd., a fast-growing Indian retail and dairy company, was struggling to keep its SAP ERP environment reliable and performant on a proprietary UNIX platform. The system had high response times, availability issues, slow backups and recovery, and difficult integration between store-based SQL Server databases and the central SAP system, all of which threatened timely stock replenishment and sales.
Suse implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on Cisco UCS, along with virtualization and high-availability features, to replace the costly UNIX setup. The result was a more stable, easier-to-manage SAP platform with IT costs cut by 50 percent, SAP job runtimes reduced by up to 93 percent, screen-change response times improved by 76 percent, inbound iDoc processing sped up by 77 percent, and disaster recovery time reduced from an estimated 16 hours to just two hours.
