A Suse Case Study
Gruppo API, one of Italy’s leading oil and energy companies, needed a more open and flexible computing environment to support growth while improving reliability, scalability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency. Its mixed distributed infrastructure of Linux and UNIX servers was becoming expensive and difficult to manage, so Gruppo API turned to Suse and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z.
Suse helped Gruppo API consolidate most of its distributed servers onto an IBM System z10 mainframe with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, using virtualization to simplify operations and improve resilience. The migration took seven months and delivered measurable gains, including a 35% reduction in SAP NetWeaver BW processing time, a 20% faster data access time, 15% less data center floor space, and 35% lower energy consumption.
