GESIS, an IT services provider for the steel industry and part of the Salzgitter Group, needed to lower operating costs while maintaining 24/7 availability for mission-critical SAP and infrastructure services. To improve reliability and control, GESIS turned to Suse products including SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, and SUSE Manager.

Suse helped GESIS move server operations back in-house and build a fully virtualized environment on VMware, supporting more than 200 virtual instances and simplifying administration. The results included 83% less downtime during system updates, 75% faster patching, and significantly reduced IT hardware and operating costs, while also improving stability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
