A Suse Case Study
Geberit, a Swiss industrial products manufacturer, needed to standardize and simplify its IT server landscape while increasing the flexibility, performance, and reliability of its mission-critical SAP environment. The company’s SAP systems supported thousands of users across multiple countries, so Geberit looked for a more cost-effective platform and migrated from Intel Itanium-based UNIX servers to blade servers running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications.
Working with SUSE and partner FRITZ & MACZIOL, Geberit implemented a virtualized SAP infrastructure on VMware with dedicated production blades and virtualized test, development, and QA systems. The move delivered major benefits: hardware costs fell by around 50%, OS licensing costs were reduced similarly, and SAP performance improved by up to 60%. Geberit also gained integrated support from SUSE and SAP, improving uptime and speeding issue resolution.
