Evonik Industries, a global specialty chemicals company, needed a more reliable and higher-performing platform for its SAP applications after experiencing performance issues on a UNIX-based IBM AIX environment. The team evaluated Linux as an alternative and selected Suse, using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Priority Support for SAP Applications to support its business-critical systems.

Suse helped Evonik migrate about 150 SAP application servers from AIX to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in just 12 months, including more than 50 production systems. The move delivered major benefits: SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse applications ran several times faster, with some processes improving by four to five times, while hardware costs fell by shifting from proprietary servers to x86 platforms and support became simpler through a single point of access for SAP and Suse assistance.
