A Suse Case Study
Endress+Hauser, the Switzerland-based measurement technology company, relied on SAP ERP applications running on DB2 and IBM AIX servers, which made disaster recovery complex and difficult to manage. To simplify recovery for its business-critical SAP environment, the company looked for a more consolidated infrastructure and evaluated SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z with help from IBM.
SUSE implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for System z on Endress+Hauser’s IBM System z mainframe, allowing the company to migrate SAP application servers from 14 AIX servers onto a single central platform. The result was a simpler, highly flexible environment with rapid provisioning of Linux virtual instances, easier disaster recovery, and stable performance; Endress+Hauser also reported improved SAP response times and unchanged staffing levels despite supporting about 5,400 users and 100 SAP systems.
