Edumate, a Sydney-based provider of web-based K–12 student learning and management systems, needed a more flexible and easy-to-manage way to support a diverse user base across many school environments. As its appliance fleet grew, Edumate struggled to keep systems current, reduce configuration effort, and simplify remote support and management. Suse’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Studio were used to address these challenges.

Suse implemented SUSE Studio to give Edumate a central, structured way to build, customize, test, and maintain its software appliances. The result was a major improvement in efficiency: new appliances that previously took four to five hours to provision could be deployed in about 20 minutes, and Edumate estimates it saves more than US$20,000 per year in development costs. The solution also improved consistency, update management, and testing across the full appliance landscape.
