A Suse Case Study
AutoData Norge AS, a provider of hosted and managed IT solutions for Norway’s automotive spare parts and supplies sector, needed a more flexible and lower-cost platform for building new web-based applications and customer environments. The company had been running on IBM z/VSE and wanted to keep its reliable mainframe foundation while expanding services efficiently. Suse Linux Enterprise Server for System z was chosen as the mainframe Linux platform.
Suse helped AutoData add Linux partitions on its IBM zEnterprise mainframe and run virtual servers through IBM z/VM, enabling rapid deployment of new customer environments with minimal overhead. The result was a more cost-effective, scalable, and easy-to-manage setup: AutoData now runs 20 virtual servers, reduced software maintenance costs, avoided extra MIPS charges, and launched new offerings like a “tire hotel” service and PaaS cloud solutions faster.
