A Suse Case Study
Apollo-Optik, a leading optical retailer in Germany with around 800 branches and franchise stores, needed a retail IT solution that could keep up with rapid business growth and the demands of converging online and in-store sales. Its custom-built, error-prone deployment environment was struggling with complex server management, slow time-to-market, and limited control. Apollo-Optik worked with Suse and partner B1 Systems, using SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service, SUSE Manager, and Open Build Service.
Suse helped implement a fully integrated release management and deployment platform that automated server provisioning, centralized systems and software management, and accelerated development and testing. The new setup decoupled software releases from hardware refresh cycles, enabled installations in about 45 minutes, reduced errors, and made new releases available for testing and deployment much faster, improving reliability, governance, and the customer experience.
