A Suse Case Study
Águas de Portugal, the publicly owned water utility group serving more than 80% of Portugal’s population, needed to replace aging IT infrastructure that was slowing down critical SAP applications. Its 10-year-old hardware, limited memory, and proprietary HP-UX environment made operations costly and less flexible, while the company also wanted to adopt in-memory database technology to improve performance. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications was selected to support this modernization.
Águas de Portugal migrated its SAP landscape to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on Huawei servers and moved from Oracle to SAP HANA, with the project managed by Portugal Telecom. The new environment delivered major gains: monthly salary processing time dropped from 1 hour to 20 minutes, and energy consumption processing fell from 10 minutes to 1.1 seconds. SUSE helped Águas de Portugal build a faster, more cost-effective, and flexible platform with improved stability and storage efficiency.
