Case Study: Huntsville Utilities achieves lower-cost, more efficient SCADA operations with SurvalentONE

A Survalent Case Study

Preview of the Huntsville Utilities Case Study

With SurvalentONE SCADA, Huntsville Utilities operates at a lower cost and greater efficiency than utilities that maintain separate solutions for their electric, gas, and water networks

Huntsville Utilities, a municipally owned utility serving electric, gas, and water customers in Huntsville, Alabama, was running all three networks on an outdated 1980s SCADA system. The legacy platform was hard to use, poorly supported, limited in functionality, and tied to proprietary hardware and operating systems, creating maintenance burdens and making modernization a priority. Huntsville Utilities chose Survalent and its SurvalentONE SCADA platform to replace the obsolete system.

Survalent managed the transition with close coordination, converting graphics and migrating network data, renaming 13,000 database points, and training staff before cutting over the electric, gas, and water networks on the same day. The new Windows-based system improved usability, supported web access and future ADMS capabilities, and positioned Huntsville Utilities to expand into OMS, FLISR, and voltage optimization. With one integrated SCADA system, one hardware platform, and one supplier for support, Huntsville Utilities now operates at lower cost and greater efficiency than if it maintained separate solutions.
