Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Future-Proofs Their Network with a Secure, User-Friendly and Modern SCADA

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, a Virginia-based member-owned utility serving more than 170,000 customers across a large distribution network, was constrained by an obsolete SCADA system that was difficult to update, produced incomplete reports, failed to meet security standards, and lacked strong vendor support. The cooperative needed a modern, secure, and user-friendly SCADA platform to support future distribution automation goals, and selected SurvalentONE SCADA from Survalent.

Survalent helped REC build a new database, graphics, and network model from scratch rather than converting the old system, enabling better data completeness and easier administration. With Survalent’s support, REC completed its first commissioning in six months and fully deployed the system in ten months, including about 15,000 data points and nearly 100 substations. The utility now has improved security, reliable reporting, and a platform it can expand with features like Command Sequencing, Protection Settings Manager, and Remote Alarm Annunciation.
