A Survalent Case Study

Preview of the Leading Illinois Utility Company Case Study

How an Investor-Owned Utility in Illinois Incorporated A Scalable Approach for Distribution Automation with the Help of a Neighbor

Survalent worked with a leading Illinois utility company that serves 1.2 million customers across a 43,700-square-mile territory and was struggling with frequent, lengthy outages. The utility needed a more scalable way to improve distribution automation and restore power faster without making a costly overhaul to its existing system.

Using SurvalentONE SCADA and FLISR software, Survalent helped the utility add fault location, isolation, and service restoration capability at the 69 kV level, first as a 12-switch pilot and then expanding to 44 switches across six circuits. The solution used existing SCADA data and supported on, off, and semi-automatic modes, giving operators confidence before moving to full automation. The utility reduced outage response time, improved reliability, and gained a scalable approach that helped minimize customers interrupted and customer minutes of interruption.
