Farmers Electric Cooperative automates load shedding for 3 days with Survalent

Farmers Electric Cooperative, a member-owned utility in Texas, faced the challenge of meeting mandated power shed targets during unprecedented winter storms in 2021. Having struggled with manual load shedding in a previous event, they needed a more efficient way to manage these high-pressure, compliance-critical operations. To address this, they utilized the SurvalentONE Rotational Load Shedding (RLS) product from vendor Survalent.

The Survalent solution automated their load shedding process. Upon activation, operators simply entered the required shed amount, and the system automatically managed de-energizing and re-energizing parts of the grid. This eliminated manual analysis and effort, ran successfully for three days, and alleviated pressure on the control room, allowing staff to focus on other storm-related activities.
